Well here are the pictures....I took 175 in all, dont worry they arent all posted here. But there are still a lot. It was a crazy trip. The full report is below the slide show. Pull up a chair, its a long one!

What A Trip.....
Well, we are back. I sure didnt think it would take me this long to post about our trip but we are exhausted! In fact Im struggling with what exactly to write about because there was so much going on. Its going to be a long post.....For those that dont know the details, we went to Kentucky for a family reunion. If any of you have flown recently then you know that going that far isnt cheap and when you multiply that by 6 tickets.....yeah. Thanks to some family angels, we had some help though and were able to go. In order to save about $800, we flew on Spirit Air which does not fly out of SLC....it does fly out of Vegas though. So the first leg of our trip was a 6 hour drive to Vegas. We spent the night at my parents house who just so happen to live there! Thanks guys..... then, because Spirit doesnt fly to Kentucky, we flew into Detroit Michigan where once again we imposed on some really great relatives! Jim Lynn and "the girls" were so very generous to let us stay the night and feed us too! The next morning with a beautiful 2008 Honda Odessey Minivan Rental, we drove off for the 7 hour drive to Drift, Kentucky... Now I can say that I have been to Michigan as well as Ohio since the drive took us literally from the top of the state to the bottom. We arrived around 4:00 pm.....tired and relieved to be there.
The rest of the week we spent there is all a big blur of people. Saturday was the Humble Reunion. This is Denver's mothers' father's side of the family.... Carlotta's dad was Carl Humble. It was a great time with lots of food, games, and prizes. We won $50 for the family that traveled the farthest to get there....isnt that the truth! It was nice to have $50 so we could put it back in to the $4 per gallon gas fund....yikes. After the reunion, we spent lots of time visiting. Sunday, we went to church. It was fun to see some of the people that we went to church with for the year we lived there. Unfortunately attendance has really dwindled in the little ward and there were many that we didnt see. Denver and I spoke during Sacrament meeting and even though I was VERY stressed out about it, I think we both did great. Lots of tears.....nothing new for me. Everyone from Michigan came down and so around 55 people showed up for a BBQ on Sunday evening at Scott and Stacys new house. Luckily their deck is HUGE and accomodated everyone! We ended that evening playing SingStar on the Playstation and that is the most fun I have had in a long time! Its like competition Karaoke. I cant tell you how much fun it was and everyone participated. Even Alec who really wanted to play but was acting like a teenager and pretending to be too embarrassed and cool......after he sang a song, it was ON and he very easily took the Mic again and again. Even Ian and Evan played and sang a couple of songs. We are going to have to buy it for sure! I will tell you though....if you are about to go head to head with Kailey Jo Shannon, you better just put your money on the table. This girl put ALL of her 9 years into her performance. It was so cute. She needs to go on American Idol. Im embarrassed to admit that she beat me on 2 songs that she shouldnt even know considering they were popular when I was like 10. "The Final Countdown", and "We're not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister..... Wow.
Monday morning, we went to Don and Carlottas for "Car-Cars breakfast".... she (with some others) made breakfast for all 55 people. Biscuits and Gravy, eggs, potatos, fried apples, bacon, sausage. More food than you could imagine. Very Southern. Then the Michigan people headed out. We spent the rest of the day visitng with some family that we hadnt seen yet. Cathi and Dicky and Aunt Sally. We were sad that we didnt have more time to visit each of them but there had just been too much going on. We are happy that we got to see them at least for a little bit.
The next morning we headed back to Michigan after a stop to see the dentist. Dicky was going to fill a couple of cavaties that the boys have but apparently their dentist here in SLC is a bit money hungry and was going to do unecessary work on our kids. They checked out with a clean bill of teeth health and we hit the road. 7 hours back to Michigan.....ugh. We arrived around 8pm, got to bed at 11pm, got up at 3:30 a.m., took off for Vegas at 6:00 am, arrived at 7:45 am (4 hour flight but you lose 3 hours going west)....had to get Alec to his plane to Phoenix at 9:00 am, left Vegas in our own van that my mom brought to us at 9:45 a.m and finally ate breakfast after 10 hours with no food. Finished the trip with a 6 hour drive back to SLC. WHEW......... I feel like Ive been hit by a freight train and Im not sure it was worth saving the $800. But, the kids really had fun and so did we after all is said and done. Addie loved everyone, but especially Josh! Ive NEVER seen her flirt like that before. Thanks to everyone that helped us out there....we miss you already.

Good News - Bad News - No News......
So they say that no news is good news right? Except of course when you are waiting for money from the IRS....no news means "you aint gettin any". This only means we are still broke, and that certainly is old news. Other than that, we are getting ready to leave for our trip to Kentucky. We are leaving tomorrow and of course I have nothing packed. I havent even made a "trip list" yet. I will be making this list immediately following this post. We will be gone for 8 days and I can pretty much guarantee you that I will not be posting anything during that time however, you can expect a full report with slideshow the day after we return....maybe even the night of if I'm up for it. The kids can hardly wait....and I am just as excited to be traveling with 4 children by car and by plane, not. We are driving to Las Vegas (6 hours) then flying to Detroit, Michigan (3 hours), then driving to Drift, Kentucky (another 6 hours). All of this with 4 kids. Then repeating the scenario coming home. Lord help us. Oh, and just to make the trip even more fun, we have been volunteered to speak in church that Sunday in Kentucky. Good times.
Ok, If I have time before I leave, I will document, in film, Addison's new and amazing skill. She has taught herself how to sommersault. Im not sure where she learned it although I have a feeling Evan had something to do with it. It is very cute to watch her do it over and over and over until she hits something. Then if she is in a really good mood (and not too injured from slamming into the couch or wall or table....), she will jump up and show you her dance spins. Very entertaining. I think Im going to enroll her in a gymnastics class when we return.....she seems to be a natural.
Now, I am going to go pack and clean and register my vehicle.....and probably pray for forgiveness for the hateful things I have said today about the IRS and other parties involved in taking my hard earned money.

Life is Changing.....we need a Vacation!
So, I am wondering what really qualifies as a vacation? You know those emails that get sent around and you have to answer questions about yourself such as, "when you cried last" or "whats your favorite food"...... yes, well the other day I participated in one that had a question "List 4 vacations you have taken." Seems pretty straight forward right? Well, I couldnt really come up with even one! That is so sad. Granted this past weekend counted as a vacation for me.... first one really! I enjoyed it immensely. However, it was more like a mini-vacation....and considering the fact that my parents live in Las Vegas and I have been there like a thousand times, not to mention the fact that I actually lived there myself for one year,
it still didnt feel like an official vacation. So, I have come to the conclusion that my family needs a real vacation. We have just purchased (with the help of angels) plane tickets to Kentucky for Memorial Day weekend......however, this cant count in my book either because we are staying with family and visiting family....in fact the whole point of going is for a family reunion. Dont get me wrong.... I LOVE going to visit family. When we go to Las Vegas, it feels vacation-y because my parents have a pool and anytime I have left my own reality for a time no matter where we go, it feels vacation-y. Next summer though, this is going to be the year of the VACATION! I think we are going to attempt Disneyland/Sea World......
So, enough of that, we are very excited to be going to Kentucky next month. We havent been back since we moved here and I know Denver is really happy to be going. In order to save money on plane tickets we are flying out of Las Vegas to Detroit and then driving down to Kentucky with Denvers' family from Michigan. I know it sounds like a huge pain but we are saving over $200 a ticket x 6 tickets.....that is a lot of money.....so the driving will have to be. We werent sure if Alec would be coming due to an excuse of some sort having to do with football. Turns out he is going to grace us with his presence for the week in Kentucky but after that he needs to go home for football practice. What does this mean? It means that since it is not our year to have him for Christmas that we only get to see him for 1 week out of the whole year. Some people may not think this is a bad thing but I assure you it is. My kids will not understand why their big brother is not coming to see them and of course Denver does not appreciate it at all. But what can you do. He wants to play football and clearly he has his priorities in line which
do not include us. I am venting here of course because there is nothing we can really do about it except exercise Denver's right to have him for the summer and insist for nothing less.....this will of course cause more grief than it is worth because who wants a moody teeanger in the house when he is being forced to be here....no thanks. Anyway, I knew it would come to this eventually. He has a life there and doesnt want to leave it even for just a month. We all know this is not really his fault. A child can only fight brainwashing for so long before he believes everything he is told by an ill intentioned parent.
So, Im thinking this means that maybe Seattle will work out after all. Im not really going to expound on that subject as there is nothing set in stone....well its not set in anything but theory just yet. However, Alec being here for the Summer was an issue we were thinking about. Maybe this is a sign that things will work out since there are no issues now other than getting the job in the first place. Since I am on the subject of jobs, on April 25th Denver beg
ins the "day shift" at Boeing. Why is this news? Well, for the past 10 years Denver has always worked a night shift (with the exception of Kentucky).....We rarely eat dinner together. My night routine is going to change drastically. I will now have someone to help me with the boys endless homework, baths, baseball/soccer games.....are you getting the picture? It is going to be strange at first.....but it is a great thing. Denver will be able to participate so much more in the kids' and my life. Plus it means that I can actually do things at night without dragging the kids with me... Yahoo! Due to this shift change, he is going to change schools as well. Westminster College is a liberal arts college and therefore does not offer many night classes. So, he has decided to take the summer off and start in the fall at University of Phoenix. The best part about this is that he will finish school a lot sooner than if he had stayed at Westminster. Our family is changing quite a bit this year. All for the better I am happy to report.
I was purusing other blogs today and heard a song on Adam and Cami's sight by Trace Adkins. This last paragraph is about to get sappy so for those of you not interested you ought to sign off now. Anyway, the song is called "your gonna miss this" and it is about enjoying the little moments of life. All the things you take for granted until they are gone. It is the first song playing on my playlist right now. Kids grow up so fast these days you can hardly keep up anymore. I was just talking to my friend Linda yesterday, who just had her fourth baby, and we were talking about how life moves too fast. Everyone "schedules" play dates for their kids because nobody just PLAYS anymore. What ever happened to the days when the kids just went outside after breakfast and knocked on friends doors to see if they could play? I personally refuse to participate in the "play date" game.
When my kids want to play with someone, I tell them to go ahead and then they knock on doors. People are just too busy. I was kicking myself the other day during the kids' spring break. I had been asked what fun stuff we were doing for Spring Break. I allowed myself to feel bad for my kids because we werent "doing stuff"......then I realized that I cannot afford nor do I have the energy to constantly entertain my kids. Then they come to expect it and are constantly "bored". It just isnt healthy in my opinion to run run run. Kids need down time. They need to be bored so that they can appreciate the fun times more. Anyway, my point of that rant was to say that we need to take a break from our "schedules" and spend time with our families. I mean time as in conversation, a good meal, play games......RELAX. Pretty soon the kids will be in their 30's and worrying about us. And we will be thinking, why didnt I take more time to enjoy them. The song is a tear jerker for sure.....but very wise and I have enjoyed a good cry this morning while thinking about my funny kids. I just cant get enough of them really......and I dont want them to grow up.

Viva Las Vegas
Okay, so maybe our Vegas trips arent as exciting as some would expect but we surely enjoyed ourselves! Im not too picky anyway.... as long as I am somewhere other than my own home, eating good food, swimming everyday and not worrying about bills and work, then I am on vacation! We had a nice time at Grandma and Grandpa Ries' house. The kids LOVE the pool. Great purchase dad!

The boys tried their hand at back flips off the side this time which made me really nervous. Especially since most of the time they didnt quite make it all the way over and ended up
belly flopping, back flopping, and just flopping in general. I've included a couple of mid-flip (flop) pictures for your enjoyment. Thankfully no one got hurt!

Addison has loved the water from day one and she is fearless when it comes to the pool. We have to be so careful because she will just jump right in without hesitation. Once in the water, she likes going under. Any other baby would be screaming.....even when she goes
under by accident and swallows some water, she does not cry EVER....it is really amazing. She had so much fu
n. Of course, that was as long as no one was trying to pick her up! She was just

fine as long as my parents left her alone but if my dad tried to pick her up or talk to her, she was not happy. If she sits in MY lap, then she flirts up a storm with Grandpa.....smiling, winking, making funny faces....but as soon as he comes for her she wigs out. Sorry dad....I know she loves you anyway! This was officially the last trip as the ONLY grandchildren in the family. We are eagerly anticipating the birth of Nathan and Alisa's little boy any day now. So, now the kids will have to share Gma & Gpa ....somehow I dont think they will mind though. They are just as excited to have a cousin nearby, even if he cant play with them yet.
So, we got home last night and today was Evan's first day of Kindergarten. He was up faster than I have EVER seen him get up! He picked out his own clothes and got his backpack and let me take all the pictures I wanted. Then we got t
here and he looked a little sick. I kept asking him if he was nervous and he just said "nope" . I think he was, but he wasnt about to show it! We picked him up after school and he was still excited so I guess it was successful.

I have a feeling that after the first week or 2 he wont be so quick to get up in the morning....normally it is like waking the dead trying to get Evan up out of bed. Notice his face in each picture as the smile fade by the time we got to the school! The first one was genuine and excited then not so much in the second and he looks almost sick in the last one! Too cute. I think he will be just fine now that he has one day under his belt!
Well, I got a new job. It is with the Post Office. Basically it is data entry still but the shift allows me to be home all day all week with the kids. I will be working Fri, Sat, Sun from 10pm to 6am. I know it sounds scary but its only 3 days a week and I get to be home Mon through Fri. This means I will be able to do all the school stuff and get the kids up and ready for school etc....this is more important to me than a cushy schedule. Anyway, this way we dont need anyone to watch Addison while Denver goes to school and I get to change my shift every 90 days if I decide I dont like it or it isnt working. I dont think I can stand another day at this job I am currently working at.....well, I still have 3 weeks left but still. It is miserable going there everyday. Im excited for the change. I start on September 29th.
Well, I think that is about it for the update. We are all doing well and looking forward to cooler weather, new babies, and Halloween. Only 7 more paychecks until Christmas!!!~

Sick Sick Sick
Well, I havent posted for a little bit because everyone has been sick off and on for the past week and a half. First Ian, then Addie, now Denver. Gotta love the first week of school. Everyone picks up everyone elses germs and it seems like you stay sick for 3 months. Anyway, Denver was up all night throwing up and everything else....Im actually feeling a little clamy myself right now and am praying that I dont get sick too.
So, nothing to report really.... I just started weight watchers yesterday. Now that I am working full time, I dont feel quite as guilty spending the money and it seems to be the only thing that works for me. That is my main focus right now is losing all this extra weight. Not only for vanity purposes but for health reasons too. My short term goal is to lose 10 pounds per month which definitely doable considering I have to lose about 90 pounds altogether. Anyway, my main goal for the year is to lose 35 pounds by Christmas which is a little less than 10 pounds per month but I am considering the holidays..... If I accomplish this goal, be prepared to see a new me! I have a plan that I wont reveal for now but I am excited about the prospect of carrying it out.
Evan got a letter in the mail from his new Kindergarten teacher. He was VERY excited. His school starts Sept 4th and he can hardly wait. Her name is Mrs. Spiegel and I really hope she is kind and patient. Teachers make such a difference in the success or failure of students...getting a bad teacher in the first few years can be devastating to a child. So, we get to meet her on the 27th and I will get a feel for who she is. Ian is progressing in school as expected. He is reading 'The Boxcar Children" which was one of my most favorite books when I was young. Im excited to be reading it with him as it brings back a lot of memories. He has had more homework than I like to see but that just goes along with the program he is in. Lots of math, spelling tests, reading with excerises afterward. Its enough to make me nuts. I guess the teacher doesnt realize that all moms dont have the luxury of spending 3 hours a night on homework. Oh well. Addison continues to be a joy! She is such a dancer! Any music at all, and she is moving. I LOVE IT!!! I hope she continues down that road and loves it like I did. I plan on putting her in ballet as soon as she is 2 or 3. I have signed the boys up for piano lessons and those start the day after Labor Day. Also, we have signed them up for soccer as well. It is going to be a busy year!
Well, we are getting excited for our trip to Las Vegas. We are going over Labor Day weekend. The kids cant wait to see Gma and Gpa Ries and swim in the pool. I cant wait just to get away for a little bit. Its alway nice to be away from your own house for a couple of days.......
Well, I guess thats it for now. Maybe we will have more to write about next week.....
